﷽
THE AWLIYAH ALLAH SAYS;
O You Who Believe! Fear Allah and Keep The Company of the
Righteous. [Surah At-Tauba (9), Verse 119]
Almighty Allah has blessed the Muslim Ummah with guides who have always kept us established on the path of righteousness.
These pious servants of Almighty Allah are known as the Awliyah Allah. In other
words, they are the beloveds of Almighty Allah, and they attained this excellence through the blessings of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم .
In every era, Almighty Allah sent them as guides towards the Ummah.
These blessed personalities are radiant lamps of guidance, whose radiance
eliminated the darkness of Kufr and Bid’at.
They attracted and drew the Believers towards the Commands of Almighty Allah and His Beloved
Rasool صلى الله عليه وسلم and they dissected with their knowledge and spirituality the
evils of the deviants, while eradicating the evils of society.
Amongst these pious and blessed servants is a personality who can be introduced through his beloved, sincere, devoted, exalted and eminent mureed, i.e. disciple.
Without even having to mention his excellence, his Karamaat or his
services, his one precious gift to the world is sufficient to explain his
distinction. His spiritual nurturing gave birth to a personality that the
East and West recognises and honours as Sultan ul Hind Khwaja e
Khwajegaan Gharib Nawaaz Hazrat Khwaja Mu’eenud’deen Chishti Ajmeri
Rahmatullah Alahi.Which true Sunni is there who has a connection to the Indo-Pak
sub-continent and does not know the excellence and eminence of Sultan
ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz Rahmatullah Alahi
Ustadh e Zaman Shahanshah e Sukhan Allama Hasan Raza Bareilvi Rahmatullah Alahi,
the younger brother of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam e Ahle Sunnat Rahmatullah Alahi
Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Rahmatullah Alahi says:
Khwaja e Hind Wo Darbaar He Aala Tera
Kabhi Mahroom Nahi Maangne Waala Tera
O Khwaja of Hind Exalted is Your Eminent Court
Never Deprived is The Mendicant Who Begs At Your Court
The blessed personality whom I wish to discuss is none other than the
Murshid e Tariqat and Shaykh e Kaamil of Sarkaar Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz
Rahmatullah Alahi .This blessed and eminent personality is Hazrat Sayyidi Sarkaar
Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi .
Subhaan’Allah! Can you imagine the Maqaam of the Murshid and the
excellence of the Murshid when the mureed is Sultan ul Hind Rahmatullah Alahi!
HIS BLESSED BIRTH.
There is a difference of opinion regarding his birth, but according to most
narrations, he was born in 536 Hijri co-inciding with 1141.
HIS MOTHERLAND.
He was indeed a grand and exalted personality. Hazrat Sarkaar Khwaja
Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi hailed from a place in Khorasaan which was
known as Harwan or Hirwan; hence, he is known as Harooni and Harwani
or Hirwani.
EDUCATION.
He was indeed a great Aalim and Zahid and a Sufi of his era. He attained
his knowledge from the great Ulama of Nishapur and excelled in the
science of Hadith, Fiqh and Tafseer etc.
SPIRITUAL ALLEGIANCE.
Hazrat Sayyiduna Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahitook Bay’at, i.e. the
Oath of Spiritual Allegiance, at the sacred hands of Hazrat Khwaja Haji
Shareef Zandani Rahmatullah Alahi who was a great mystic of his time. He remained
in the service of his grand Murshid and excelled in the path of
Spiritualism, attaining great heights in Ruhaniyat, and journeying swiftly
through the paths of Sulook and Ma’rifat.
HIS IBAADAT.
He was well known for his spiritual struggles and his sincerity in Ibaadat.
He performed Mujaahida, i.e. deep spiritual exercises, to attain closeness
to Almighty Allah, and he did so with immense devotion. It has been reported
that for seventy years he performed intense Mujaahida and this time
he never ate a full stomach of food, only ate as per need. He was an
amazing Hafiz of the Holy Qur’an. With all his other intense efforts in
Ibaadat, he loved the recitation of the Qur’an and would complete one
Khatam Shareef daily.
Subhaan’Allah! This should be a lesson for all our Huffaz e Kiraam. This
was the manner of these beloved servants of Almighty Allah, and if a
Hafiz and Ulama wish to attain true success and blessings in their
knowledge and their recitations, they should attach themselves to these
beloved of Allah.
THE AFFECTS OF HIS DUA.
The Peer o Murshid of Sultan ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz Rahmatullah Alahi
Hazrat Sarkaar Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi was such a blessed
personality that his Dua would be swiftly accepted in the Court of
Almighty Allah. He was thus Mustajaabud Da’waat, in other words, his
Duas were swiftly accepted.
Just one beautiful example of this is Hazrat Sarkaar Khwaja Uthman
Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi would often make Dua his grave should be in Makkah
Mukarramah and Almighty Allah accepted his Dua, and he is today resting
in the Holy City of Makkah Mukarramah.
While making Dua for Sultan ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz Rahmatullah Alahi
he would often say, this beloved son of mine, i.e. my beloved disciple, has
served me with sincerity and devotion and left no shortage in serving me.
O Allah! Bless him with the best of rewards and grant him excellence and
Wilaayat, with a unique position amongst Awliyah.
Subhaan’Allah! He asked for a place in Makkah and he received it. He
asked that his devoted Mureed and the pride of his Mureeds Hazrat
Khwaja e Paak Rahmatullah Alahi be blessed with a unique excellence, and Almighty
Allah blessed him with such a unique excellence that the Dua of his
Shaykh e Kaamil and his sincere acknowledgement of Huzoor Ghaus e
Azam Rahmatullah Alahi afforded him the station of Sultan ul Hind, a station which is
unique and exalted indeed.
GLAD-TIDINGS OF FORGIVENESS FOR THE UMMAH.
Hazrat Sayyid Meer Abdul Wahid Bilgirami Rahmatullah Alahi is one of the grand
Masha’ikh. He writes in his world renowned Saba’ Sanabil Shareef that;
The excellence and the acceptance of Hazrat Sayyiduna Khwaja Uthman
Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi was such that when he would perform his Salaah, an
unseen voice could be heard saying,
We have accepted your Namaaz, Ask whatever it is you wish to ask. Hazrat
Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi will reply by saying, O Allah! I ask You
of you. In other words, afford me Your closeness.
The voice would then say, O Uthman! I have bestowed upon you a never
ending Radiance. What else do you desire? He would then say, O Allah!
Forgive the sinful ones from the Ummah of Your Beloved Muhammad
.صلى الله عليه وسلم Mustafa
The voice would say, I have forgiven thirty thousand sinful people
from the Ummah of My Beloved Muhammad Mustafa صلى الله عليه وسلم due to you.
Hazrat Sayyid Meer Abdul Wahid Bilgirami Rahmatullah Alahi says that, he would be
blessed with these glad-tidings five times daily.
A GREAT WALI & SAAHIB E KARAAMAT.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi was indeed a great Wali and
Saahib e Karaamat. Since this is a very concise presentation, I will present
here a few of his blessed Karaamats.
The truth of the matter is that if we really wish to observe the Karaamat
of Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi then you should go to Ajmer
Shareef, and take the blessings of his glowing Karaamat, who is still
distributing the blessings of his Murshid e Kaamil after more than eight
hundred years.
OVER THE RIVER TIGRIS AT MOMENTS.
Hazrat Sarkaar Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz Rahmatullah Alahi would often say that once
while I was travelling with my Shaykh e Kaamil we came upon the River
Tigris. There was no boat at that time which we could use to cross the
River. My Murshid said, Close your eyes! After a few moments he said,
Open your Eyes! When I opened my eyes, we were both on the other
side of the River, standing on the banks of The Tigris.
This is why we have been commanded to hold firmly to the pious servants
of Almighty Allah, and to attach ourselves to them, so that we may be
blessed with their blessings in all matters of life and in the hereafter as
well.
AN OLD MAN FINDS HIS SON AFTER FORTY YEARS.
Sultan ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja e Paak Rahmatullah Alahi says that, once a very old man
came to my Murshid Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi in a troubled
and anxious state.
He said, Hazrat! My son is missing since the last forty years. I am very
stressed because I do not know what has happened to him. I do not know
whether he is still alive or if he has died. I have come to your blessed
Court so that you may make Dua that I should find my son. Hazrat Khwaja
Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi lowered his head and entered into Muraqaba, i.e.
a state of spiritual meditation.
THE FLAMES OF KUFR EXTINGUISHED.
Once, Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi passed by a place which was
inhabited by fire worshippers, i.e. Zoroastrians. They had a huge temple
on which they had erected a dome, and day and night, a fire would burn
therein. Daily twenty huge loads of logs would be burnt and the place
would always be packed with fire worshippers.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi sat at a distance under a tree near
a river. He said to his Khaadim Fakhrud’deen, the time of Iftaar is drawing
near so prepare some Rotis. When Khaadim went towards them to get
some fire, the fire worshippers refused. Khaadim returned and
mentioned the situation to Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi.
The Murshid e Kaamil of Sarkaar Gharib Nawaaz Rahmatullah Alahi then personally
got up and went towards the fire worshippers.
He walked up to the leader of the fire worshippers who was sitting on a
throne with his seven year old son on his lap, while his followers were
seated around him worshipping the fire.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi told the leader of the fire
worshippers, what benefit is there in worshipping a fire which can be
extinguished with a little bit of water? Why do you not worship the
Creator who created the fire and everything else? Why do you
worship the fire which is merely a creation?
The leader of the fire worshippers said, the fire is very exalted in our
Faith. He said that the fire is our Deity; hence, we worship it, so that it does
do not burn us after we die.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, It has been ages since you
people have been worshipping this fire. Put your hand into the fire
and see if it burns you or if it spares you.
The leader of the fire worshippers said, it is the nature of fire to burn, so
Who would dare to go so close to it. On hearing this, Hazrat Khwaja Uthman
Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi swiftly picked up the seven year old child from the lap of
the leader, said Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem and then while reciting
the verse,
He walked into the raging fire in their temple of fire. Fire worshippers
were flabbergasted, and they began to shout and scream. For some
moment he disappeared within the raging fire, and then after a while he
emerged from the raging fire in such a state that even his clothes were
not affected by the fire. Leave alone his clothes being affected by the fire,
his clothes were not even affected by the smoke.
While this was happening, fire worshippers gathered in their
thousands. On seeing this Karaamat, they were amazed and overwhelmed.
They asked the little boy, what did you see in the fire? He said, except for
a beautiful blossoming garden I saw nothing else.
All those present repented and accepted Islam at the blessed hands of
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi. The Murshid e Kaamil of Sultan ul
Hind, Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi named the leader Abdullah
and he named his son Ibraheem. They both attached themselves to him,
and he nurtured them spiritually, until Almighty Allah blessed both of
them with Wilayat.
The Temple of Fire was broken down, and a Masjid was erected for the
Ibaadat of Almighty Allah. It is mentioned in some narrations that Hazrat
Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi remained there for two and half years
training and educating this community who had accepted Islam at his
Blessed hands.
Subhaan’Allah! The manifestation of this Karaamat of the Kaamil
Murshid can be seen manifesting in Sarkaar Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz Rahmatullah Alahi
with hundreds of thousands accepting Islam at his blessed hands in hislifetime. This was indeed the manifestation of his Murshid which
reflected in him. In this is evidence that, if a Mureed e Saadiq who does
not deviate from the Commands and the love of his Kaamil Shaykh, the
reflection and the Manifestation of the Kaamil Shaykh manifests in him,
and through him.
SEVENTY PEOPLE REPENT AT HIS HANDS.
It is mentioned that once seventy ignorant people gathered together in a
house at midnight. Someone amongst them started to talk about the
excellence and Karaamats of Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi so all
Seventy of them decided to visit Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi
so that they could test his Wilaayat. They decided that if they saw his
Karaamat they would all repent and become his disciples.
Each of them in their minds thought of a particular delicacy which was
impossible to get after midnight. Each of them wanted him to sense what
variety of food they desired. They all then presented themselves at the
Court of Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi. On seeing them he said,
And Allah Guides Whomsoever He Wills Towards The Righteous Path
He then made all of them sit in front of him and asked them to wash their
hands. Thereafter, he recited Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem and raised
his blessed hands towards the sky. Immediately a tray of food appeared
from the unseen, with all the varieties of food which they had desired. As
per the desire of each, he distributed the food amongst them. They were
amazed to see this, and they repented and were included amongst his
faithful Mureeds and by his blessings, all of them were blessed with grand
spiritual excellence.
HIS GEMS OF WISDOM.
Hazrat Sultan ul Hind Sarkaar Khwaja e Khwajegaan Hazrat Khwaja
Mu’eenud’deen Chishti Ajmeri Rahmatullah Alahi according to some narrations, spent
twenty years in the Court of his Murshid e Kaamil, and during this time,
he gathered the blessed words and spiritual moments from the life of his
Murshid e Kaamil.
This formed the world renowned Malfooz of his Murshid e Kaamil titled
Anees ul Arwaah. A detailed study of this blessed book will shed more
light in his blessed words and ways. For the sake of attaining his
Blessed, I will present a few of his beautiful directives.
THE ESSENCE OF IMAAN.
Discussing the Essence of Imaam, Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi
said that the Beloved Rasool صلى الله عليه وسلم said, Imaan is bare, its garb is piety, its
head post is mendicancy, and its treatment is knowledge, and its word is
the Shahaadat, i.e. to believe in La ilaaha il’l-Allahu Muhammadur
Rasoolullah. In other words, there is none worthy of worship except
Allah, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is Allah’s Rasool. In other words, a Mo’min is that
person who pronounces the Kalima with his tongue, and affirms it with
his heart, and Imaan in reality is not in the destiny of anyone but one who
is virtuous.
PERFORM YOUR NAMAAZ.
Today, many people take Salaah very lightly. We should pay attention to
the directives of the pious with regards to what is already commanded in
the Qur’an and Hadith.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, One who does not perform
Namaaz has no share in Islam.
THE CATASTROPHE OF SINS.
Concerning a Hadith Shareef, Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said,
the sun and the moon go into eclipse when the sins of the people
have increased immensely.
THE STATUS OF THE HUSBAND.
With reference to Hadith Shareef, Hazrat Sarkaar Khwaja Uthman
Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, The woman who respects and obeys her husband
will join Jannat with Sayyidatuna Faatima Zahra Rahmatullah Alahi and when a
woman does not go to her husband when he calls her, then all her
virtuous deeds are ruined.
THE BLESSINGS OF SADAQA.
With reference to Hadith Shareef, Hazrat Sayyidi Khwaja Uthman
Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, One of the best actions is to give Sadaqa, i.e.
charity.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, Hazrat Khwaja Ibraheem
Adham Rahmatullah Alahi wrote in Asaar e Awliyah that, to give one dirham in
Sadaqa is greater than a year of Ibaadat, wherein a person keeps fast
during the day and stood in Ibaadat throughout the night.
Sultan ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz Rahmatullah Alahi says, I heard from my
Shaykh e Kaamil, Shaykh Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi that, if a person truly
possesses three qualities, Allah keeps him righteous. They are are
Generosity, Compassion and Humility. Generosity is (like) the
sea, Compassion is (like) the Sun, and Humility is (like) the earth.
FEEDING THE HUNGRY AND THIRSTY.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, When a person quenches
the thirst of one who is thirsty, then immediately his sins are
forgiven, and he is, as he was when his mother gave birth to him,
and without accountability he will enter Jannat, and if he dies on
that very same day, he will be counted amongst the martyrs.
He then said, if a person feeds the hungry, then Almighty Allah fulfils
a thousand of his needs, and saves him from the fire of Hell, and
erects for him a Palace in Jannat.
YOUR DAUGHTERS ARE A GIFT.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni ا ر said, Daughters are Allah’s Gift
to you. Whosoever keeps them happy, Almighty Allah will keep him
happy.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, whomsoever becomes
pleased on the birth of a daughter, (at that moment) it is more
beneficial for him, than to make Ziyaarat of the Kaa’ba seventy times.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said those parents who are kind
and compassionate towards their daughters, Almighty Allah is
Merciful towards them, and the Ambia e Kiraam and the Awliyah e
Kiraam were more loving towards their daughters than towards their
sons.
CONVEY SALAAMS.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said,
When you enter a gathering convey Salaams, and as you leave a
gathering convey Salaams, as conveyed Salaam is an amends for
your sins, and the Angels ask forgiveness on behalf of the one who
does this. Conveying Salaam awards one a thousand good deeds and
a thousand sins are forgiven, and a thousand needs are fulfilled, and
the blessings of one hundred Hajj and Umrah are recorded in your
Book of Deeds.
THE ULAMA.
Concerning a Hadith Shareef Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni ا ر
said, Towards the last occasions, Ulama will be killed (or mistreated),
also, they will be criticized and offended.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said,
Towards the last occasions, the rich will turn into the powerful,
also, the Ulama will become feeble and constrained. In such a period,
All-powerful Allah will remove Barkat, for example Favors, and urban areas will
become desolate and destroyed, and there will be conflict in Deen. So
Keep in mind! Such individuals (i.e., such rich individuals) are from the
prisoners of Hell. Allah shields us from being among them.
Apologize BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, Repent, for example make Tauba,
before you bite the dust. To lament a short time later will do you nothing but bad. All-powerful
Allah said to Hazrat Adam Rahmatullah Alahi O Adam! At the point when your youngster, for example
your posterity, apologize (earnestly), I will acknowledge their contrition.
Hazrat Khwaja Uthman Harooni Rahmatullah Alahi said, Repentance is of two sorts:
1. Genuine Repentance: This is the point at which an individual doesn't dare go close to that
sin once more, for which he has as of now apologized.
2. Contrition which isn't Beneficial: This is the point at which an individual atones
day and night, yet at the same time doesn't cease from sins, then, at that point, such
atonement isn't gainful.
Commendable MUREED.
Tending to Sultan ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaaz ا ر ,Hazrat
Khwaja Uthman Harooni ا ر said, A commendable, for example genuine Mureed, is he,
who makes Amal, for example acts, upon whatever he hears from the favored
tongue of his Murshid e Kaamil, with the goal that he might be saved from
embarrassment.
HIS WISAAL.
According to most portrayals, Hazrat Khwaja Uthman
Harooni ا ر ventured from this world on the fifth of Shawwal 617 Hijri.
He had ventured to Makkah Mukarramah towards the last long stretches of his
life, and according to his Dua, he ventured into the great beyond in the Holy City of
Makkah. One more portrayal makes reference to that he passed from this world in
607 Hijri.
